How we choose
Proven over fashionable, simple over clever, and as few moving parts as the problem allows. Every dependency has to earn its place, because each one is something to maintain, secure, and eventually replace.
Decisions on the record
Significant technical decisions are written down as they’re made, with their context, the alternatives considered, and the consequences. Years later, anyone can see why the system is the way it is.
Quality enforced by tools
Standards that can be checked automatically are checked automatically: formatting, types, tests, and security audits run on every change, and nothing ships when they fail.
Cloud and infrastructure
We build and run systems on the cloud, with Amazon Web Services as our usual home: serverless functions, managed databases, and infrastructure described in code so environments can be rebuilt exactly. This site runs that way.
Trustworthiness
We guarantee all our software for both fitness of purpose and trustworthiness (no malware, adware, spyware, call home, self-help (timebomb), or other deceitful elements are ever present in our code).
